Cameras generally have either a C or CS lens mount, although there are a number of other types.
It is not possible to use CS mount lenses on cameras equipped with a C lens mount because it is not possible to fit the lens close enough to the image sensor in order to focus the image as the distance between the rear flange of the lens and the image sensor must be 12.5mm for CS mount operation and the C mount is positioned 17.526mm distant from the image sensor.
However it is possible to use a C mount lens on a CS mount camera by using a 5mm adaptor ring between the lens and the camera.
